Here’s proof that a gift doesn’t have to be store-bought to make a big impact — after Kari Koelsch, a nurse and mom of three, mentioned to her husband that she wished she had her own space to get ready and do her makeup, he transformed a spare closet into a dreamy vanity. Best DIY ever? We think so.
Kari’s husband, Todd, designed the vanity himself — and with the help of Kari’s sister, Molly, brought the closet (blush pink stripes, gold accents, faux-fur seat and all) to life. “I’m almost shocked that Todd came up with such a feminine design,” Kari told the Huffington Post. “He’s a big tough guy that wears work boots every day. I’m definitely surprised he thought of pink stripes.”

Honestly, so was the Internet — after Molly posted the closet transformation on Twitter, it went viral, rounding up an astounding 67,000 retweets. Why? Because Todd Koelsch brought every female’s Pinterest daydream to life. But what he wasn’t prepared for was the public’s response. “So when I made my beautiful wife a vanity for her birthday, I did it because I love my wife and I love to see her happy,” he wrote on Facebook. “Never would I have expected the response that it received.”
The whole project (completed just in time for Christmas!) was done on a budget — many of the closet’s accent pieces were on sale, said Kari. But money, of course, was never the point. “When I look at it, all I can think of is how priceless it is to me. Money can’t buy the things I have,” she said.
The best part of the vanity is one that every mom will relate to. “Kari said the best part about the closet vanity is that if she’s in a rush and doesn’t have time to clean up she can just shut the door,” Molly told Buzzfeed.
Yep. Husband of the Year goes to Todd Koelsch — hands down.
